It is easy to fall in love with a singing bowl. You hear its tone, imagine a peaceful space at home, and begin looking at bowls, chimes and perhaps a gong too.

If you are planning to learn sound healing, that excitement is lovely. But you can give yourself time to explore before building a collection.

Choosing instruments is a decision worth making with some practical experience behind you. My Sound Healing Level 1 training in Drogheda includes hands-on exploration of different instruments, giving you an opportunity to become more familiar with their sound and use.

Start with what you want to learn

Before buying, think about your reason for studying sound healing.

Are you exploring a personal interest? Hoping to work with individual clients? Considering how sound might fit into your existing holistic practice?

These questions help you think about what you may eventually need. An instrument that looks beautiful online may not be the most practical choice for your space or the way you hope to work.

You do not need to have every answer yet. Write down your questions and bring them into your learning.

Experience the instruments in person

A recording can introduce a sound, but it cannot tell you everything about working with an instrument.

Practical exploration lets you notice its weight, how it responds to your touch, and how easily you can handle it. You can begin to understand the difference between enjoying a sound and feeling comfortable using the instrument yourself.

In my training, students explore instruments such as singing bowls, gongs, drums and chimes. The emphasis is on thoughtful use alongside client care and professional boundaries.

Let that experience inform your choices. You may find yourself interested in a different instrument from the one you first imagined.

Consider the everyday practicalities

When you are ready to buy, look beyond the instrument alone.

• Where will you store it?

• Will you need to carry it to another location?

• Does it need a stand, a case or particular accessories?

• Can you try it before purchasing?

These details may seem small, but they can make a real difference to how comfortably you use your equipment.

Give yourself a budget too. Your learning deserves attention just as much as your shopping list.
